"Senator Warner and I introduced the Climate Security Act for a very simple but serious reason. It was to protect the environment, economy, and national security of the United States of America from the worst effects of manmade climate change.

Is it a problem, climate change? Well, just last week the Bush administration itself released a scientific report confirming that if we as a nation fail to take strong action now to cut our emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, then the resulting climate change will impose severe hardship on the American people."
Senater Lieberman on the Senate floor June 2nd, 2008

What's that Senator Lieberman? Climate change will impose severe hardship on the American people? As if $4.00 a gallon isn't a hardship?

I'm so sick of our Government not caring about the American people. Oh sure, Leiberman said the right things, but he is not doing anything about it. In fact he only is going to make it worse. The Climate Security Act wants to cut emissions on our energy suppliers by 60% by the year 2030. The EPA estimates that this will add $1.50 more to already rising gas prices! So more expensive gas, energy, and less jobs is all to protect us from hardship in the future?

Here are some ideas to help us from Hardships! How about amending the useless Ethanol bill that passed last year. You know the one that has caused our food to go up all because farmers are forced to use a third of there crops for fuel. A fuel that is not even scientifically proven yet. Or maybe we could drill for oil in ANWAR or off the coast? No? Alright what about nuclear? Or is that only for other countries to use? Coal? Water? Wind? No, all of these hurt the environment you say? Really, even wind?

The fact is that we can't build any power plants. We can't drill for any oil. We can't even put Wind Turbines off the coast of New England because it might hurt the ocean. Or even worse, it might obstruct a view!

Thomas Jefferson said that a revolution every twenty years was needed. I am beginning to think that he was correct. What is it going to take to make the average american voice heard? It's not like we can talk through our vote. Not with the debacle that is our current 2 party system. Oh and by the way the only people that can change our political system are in fact the ones that benefit from this situation. Could it be through our own dollar. Well maybe. 20 years ago! The sad fact is that the price of gas has gone up due to foriegn money. The oil is bought on the global market. It is being driven up by foriegn investors who know that the U.S. is stuck paying for it because our own elected officials can't stand up to the enviromental special interest groups! Meaning we can't even drill for the oil that is beneath us. We have to rely on foreign oil.

I'm just so frustrated with the needs of the real American people being cast off in favor of the special interest groups that consist of the few. The truth is the gas prices haven't hurt me personally all that much. Besides the fact that we probably won't travel very far it doesn't change us. But I'm not nieve enough to realize that the products that we use all come through trucks, train or shipment cargo. All of which use FUEL! Meaning the price of everything is going to go up.

At least we have Walmart. We can save a buck or two there. Of course that money goes into the hands of a communist country. Oh and buy the way China also pumps more co2 into the air than any other country. And that's not going to stop. They currently are in construction of 300 coal power plants. China will pollute more than the U.S. by far! So every-time I buy something at Walmart to save money because fuel prices are so high I give it to China so they can build something that will pollute and then fuel will go up here since congress wants to save the planet before they save us! Viscous circle!

I'm not sure what to do. Other than turn this problem over to future Lisa. Maybe she'll have some good ideas.

I think this is why I have my head in the sand when it comes to politics and news in general. I love this country and I am grateful for my freedom. However, it drives me crazy that we have such morons running and ruining our country. I get so exasperated that I can't function. Thus if I ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist I can breath again and go on living.

It is a problem for sure. How about all the oil men in this country who definitely aren't hurting for money while people scrimp and save. As long as "Big Oil" has so much control, our government will not invest in alternative fuel sources.
But even as bad as we feel life is, we are still extremely rich and have so much compared to most of the world. That is a comfort.
I know for truckers it's getting really rough. We just drove across country on Diesel. OUCH!!!

Preach on brother! The answer is PRODUCE OUR OWN OIL!! The US hasn't built a new refinery in 30 years. One is proposed about 20 miles outside Yuma Az and it gets shut down by evironmentalists who "feel" it will hurt the environment. People here in Yuma are crossing the border into Mexico to fill up where gas is only $2.00/gal. - why? Because Mexico produces it's OWN OIL!! yet those people keep leaving their country to come to ours...hmmm...maybe we should just swap!

To Lisa and Natalie,

I know it's frustrating but you MUST do something. Contact your congressmen, and senators. voice your opinion!

Elise,

I know you how you feel about the oil executives. However, it isn't them that set the price of oil. They also don't produce all of the oil. The price of oil is driven what investors are willing to pay for said oil. With the U.S. refusing to be energy independent we are at the mercy of foreign investors. Also, this is a capitalist system and I do not agree with any profit taxes that many in congress support.

Chris,

Environmentalist suck! Look I believe in moderation and we should think about how we effect the future with what we do today, but only at a fraction of what the environmentalists believe. Problem today is that the country is run by special interest groups. Problem is that most of the people in special interest groups live in San Fransisco and New York were they are so out of touch with the rest of us.

Bryan, I know this is a simple comparision, but it's just like I said on my blog about Hollywood controlling my television viewing. The small minority who want to see the gay world coming out front are running what the rest of must see if we want to be entertained on TV or movies. I am discussed by the "few" running my world and that of all of us who are good, hard working people. I Think perhaps you Bryan, should run for office? Although as unthinkable as it is, people will hate you for what you stand for.
